Whether it's winter or summer who can resist the charm of this beautiful historic town. Samoens is a hidden gem tucked between the livelier resorts of Morzine and Chamonix. The Giffre valley is classified as “Pure Naturel” and its residents are keen to keep it as unspoilt as possible so that it retains its local traditions and individuality.
Samoens lies in the heart of the valley and is surrounded by mountain peaks. The town still carries on many of its traditions including farming, woodmen, cheese makers and of course the wine producers still flourish here. You will find a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants. On Wednesdays the whole town is taken over by the market where you will find an array of local produce.
Of course the winter in Samoens is about the Skiing so the gondola called the Grand Massif Express takes you to 1,600m in only 8 minutes, once you get there you have access to 265km of piste, from here you can go to the villages Sixt, Morilllon , Les Carroz or Flaine and along the way you can choose from a wonderful variety of restaurants. There is a tremendous range of skiing that will challenge the experienced and wet the appetite of the beginner. Indeed from our own experience it is a particularly good place to learn to ski whether young or old.

Samoens must be experienced in the Summer. Due to it being only 700m the weather is hot and sunny. The facilities in the village are fantastic. It has outdoor swimming pools, 400km of mountain bike trails, adventure parks, golf, hiking and walking, potholing, rock climbing and rafting to name but a few. In fact there is more variety of activities in the summer than the winter. However if you want to just sit and take in the beautiful views of the Alps then the gondola is now open to take you up to 1,600 without breaking a sweat!
